What our Prevention & Intervention programs are all about

BSC’s preventive classes have two features: one, no referral is required from a social service agency, which, for many years, was a standard practice; two, BSC offers these services to: individuals, charter, private and public schools or agencies and organizations that seek better methods of parenting.

BSC uses the Prevention Research Institute’s Prime for Life Universal Prevention Program to facilitate DWI and DUI classes for adults 18 and older. The course is between 4 ½ and 6 hours with the option for participants to attend either one or two sessions. It is geared to educate and reduce the amount of vehicular related accidents, deaths and financial liability caused by DWI/DUI. The Universal Prevention class covers 25 core topics in two units. Clients use the Prime for Life Participant Manual. The preventive unit, or unit one, consists of 13 topics on identifying lifestyles, biological risks and choices. Unit two, the protecting unit, includes 12 topics that explore the effects of drugs and alcohol, the causes of impairment as well as what is acceptable or unacceptable in terms of drinking and drug use according to The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and New York State Laws.

BSC offers the DUI/DWI mandated classes to individuals and preventive ones to: community organizations, agencies, corporations, businesses and other professionals seeking education in the area of, but not limited to, drinking responsibly. Moreover, BSC offers Universal Youth Prevention Services to the Department of Education, private and charter schools.

BSC’s Recovery Coach Training is a 5-day intensive class, which provides students with the skills needed to empower, guide, mentor and support anyone who would like to enter into or sustain a lifetime of recovery from addiction.  Students use the Recovery Coach Manual, which covers 15 core strategies that promote personal growth, building healthier relationships, skill enhancement and the professionalism required to become a Recovery Coach. BSC follows and adheres to the guidelines and ethical practices of The Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) as well as the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR).

All students who finish the training will receive a certificate of completion from BSC and approved by OASAS as well as information about and the application from CCAR in reference to becoming certified by the state to teach Recovery Coaching worldwide. Please note that all students will receive information about and are required to complete the survey monkey upon completion in order to receive a second certificate and become registered with CCAR.
